A wedding ceremony is one of the most important events in a person’s life. As it was first ordained by God in the Garden of Eden, the outcome of a wedding is marriage which is one of the sacred sacraments here on earth. As such a wedding ceremony needs to be handled with utmost professionalism, giving it all the respect it deserves for it to carry beautiful memories.
For a wedding ceremony to happen it requires a lot of planning which involves family, friends and service providers’ also known as wedding vendors. In today’s world wedding vendors are the backbone of a beautiful wedding ceremony. Wedding vendors may include Wedding Planners, Cake Makers, Decorators’, Master of Ceremonies etc.
Let us talk about the substantial role of Master of Ceremonies (MC) at a wedding. The MC is the host of the wedding, who is responsible for setting the feel of the wedding making sure that everyone is having a good time. A good MC makes sure that everything runs smoothly, for this to happen the MC has to be organized, do their homework, be careful with HUMOUR and know what is going on.
As the official host at the reception the MC needs to trade carefully on how to handle themselves, most importantly get to know the meaning of each activity of the ceremony for example; candle lighting, cake cutting and wine ceremony. These are some of the essential activities at every wedding reception and cannot be taken lightly. The MC also needs to do their homework on the meanings of each activity and its importance, so that they can execute their duties in a more responsible and professional manner.
George Adams, one of Malawi’s top MCs wrote To my fellow MCs… Please, let us be knowledgeable about the activities that happen at any event. For example, why there is an exchange of chickens at an engagement ceremony, candle lighting ceremony at a wedding etc. Likewise, the WINE CEREMONY at a wedding!
Placed later in the ceremony, a wine ceremony symbolizes the blending of two lives into one. By blending sweet and dry wines together, it can be used to symbolize the marriage bond that persists in times and joy and in sorrow.
Please my fellow MCs, let us not get too excited with things we don’t know anything about. To avoid tying your soul to the souls of the newly-weds, it is key to ask. If not, just google and understand.
No offense but emceeing is a serious business that requires school, training, professionalism, discipline, skill, knowledge, and above all, a clear understanding of the game just like any other professional field.
Let’s give this profession the attention & the respect it deserves.”
Weddings and receptions are exciting celebrations with a mixture of emotions, with a diverse mix of friends, families, co-workers, church people and neighbors which can make things quite chaotic. To keep the ceremony moving along, to make sure that everything the bride and groom want to have happen at their reception takes place, it is very important that there be a designated voice, but do not be the voice that ends up causing scenes because you are trying to be funnier than usual. For weddings, be a professional Host not a stand-up comedian
